The
Skyview High School | Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington Senior Photographer
Aubrey’s senior session was easily one of my favorites from this season. We started at Sean’s Studio in Vancouver, Washington for hair and makeup before heading into Portland for an afternoon filled with different outfits and locations. Because we photographed earlier in the year, we had beautiful weather and were able to use one of my favorite seasonal spots, the purple flower fields.
Starting earlier in the season can make a big difference when choosing senior photo locations around Portland. Some fields only look their best for a short window each year. The purple flowers we used for Aubrey’s session are usually burnt up by around the first week of July, so our timing worked perfectly.

We began in downtown Portland with Aubrey wearing a green top and jeans. This casual outfit worked well with the city setting and gave us an easy way to begin the afternoon. Downtown Portland has so many different backgrounds within a small area, making it possible to change the look of the photos without spending a lot of time traveling between spots.

Next, Aubrey changed into a white top with jeans as we headed into the Pearl District. We photographed near large glass windows for a cleaner, more modern look. The reflections and simple architecture gave these portraits a completely different feel from our first location while keeping the focus on her.
I like including both casual and dressier outfits during senior sessions because each one adds something different to the final gallery. Aubrey’s first two looks showed how even a simple change from a green top to a white top can work when the backgrounds are different.

For our next set of photos, Aubrey changed into her cheer uniform and we returned to downtown Portland. Including her uniform was an important way to document something connected to her high school years. Sports uniforms, instruments, letterman jackets, and other meaningful items can make senior pictures feel much more personal.

After finishing our city photos, we traded the buildings and glass windows for a field of tall grasses. Aubrey changed into a white dress, which paired beautifully with the softer outdoor setting. By this point in the afternoon, the light was beginning to warm up as we moved closer to sunset.
The white dress gave us a classic look while the tall grasses added texture and movement around her. I love saving locations like this for later in a session because the lower sunlight changes the entire feel of the photos. It also gives seniors a nice mix of city portraits and outdoor images in the same gallery.
From there, we headed to the purple flower field for one of the highlights of the evening. Aubrey wore a light pink dress surrounded by rows of seasonal purple flowers. The soft colors worked beautifully together, especially as the sunlight became warmer.

Timing was especially important for this location. These flowers do not last throughout the entire summer, and by early July they are usually past their best. Photographing earlier gave us the chance to use the field while it was still full of color, which made this part of Aubrey’s session extra special.

We stayed in the purple flowers for her final outfit, a floral tank paired with jeans. Ending with something casual gave us another option without needing to change locations. The floral pattern also fit naturally with the setting while the jeans kept the outfit relaxed.
By the end of the evening, Aubrey’s gallery included everything from downtown Portland architecture and Pearl District glass windows to her cheer uniform, tall grasses, and seasonal flowers. Every location had its own feel, but together they created a collection that showed several sides of her personality and style.
For seniors considering photos in Portland, Oregon, the time of year can be just as important as the location. Certain flowers, grasses, and greenery change quickly as summer progresses. Scheduling earlier can open up locations that may not be available later in the season, while still giving us the warm evening light that works so well for outdoor senior portraits.
Aubrey, thank you for such a fun afternoon! From downtown Portland and the Pearl District to tall grasses and those incredible purple flowers, there were so many parts of this session that I loved photographing. Congratulations on your senior year and the Skyview High School Class of 2026!
