The
Megan’s senior session was such a fun way to spend a summer afternoon, with everything from tall grass and downtown locations to one of my favorite purple flower fields. We started at Sean’s Studio in Vancouver, Washington for hair and makeup before heading out for her photos. With six different outfits and several completely different settings, we were able to give each part of her session its own look while still having everything flow together.

Our first location was a tall grass field, and Megan started with a two-piece floral outfit that was absolutely perfect for this setting. I loved how the pattern looked against all of the natural greens and grasses around her. Starting here also gave us a softer outdoor look before switching things up and heading into the city.

From there, we moved to an urban location where Megan changed into a white top with jeans. I always love including a simple outfit like this in senior sessions because it works so well with city backgrounds. The combination felt casual and natural, and it gave us a completely different style from the field we had just photographed in.

For her next outfit, we stayed with the urban look but found a spot with glass windows and yellow umbrellas in the background. Megan changed into another cute top, and the glass gave us some great reflections while the umbrellas added a pop of color behind her. This is one of the reasons I love photographing senior pictures around Vancouver, Washington. There are so many different backgrounds within a short distance, so we can create a lot of variety without spending the whole session driving.

Next, we switched to a country-inspired look with a red top, denim, and white cowboy boots. This outfit was such a fun change from the city looks and worked perfectly as we moved back toward more natural locations. Mixing casual outfits, dresses, and country-inspired pieces is a great way to make a senior gallery feel different from one location to the next.

One of the biggest highlights of Megan’s senior session was our next stop, one of my favorite purple sweet pea flower fields. She wore a denim top with a white skirt, and this was easily one of my favorite senior picture outfits of the summer. The denim and white looked so good surrounded by all of the purple flowers, especially as the afternoon light started getting warmer.
If having flowers in your senior pictures is important to you, timing your session matters. These purple sweet pea flowers bloom in early to mid-summer, and the window for photographing them can be short. I recommend booking the earliest June date possible if this is the kind of location you want for your senior photos. That gives us the best chance of catching the field while the flowers are blooming.

For Megan’s final look, she changed into a yellow dress, which was absolutely perfect with the warm sunset light. After moving through tall grasses, urban backgrounds, country-inspired scenery, and purple flowers, ending in a dress as the sun went down was the perfect way to finish the session. That soft golden light during the last part of the evening is always worth planning around.
If you’re planning senior photos in Vancouver, Washington or the Portland, Oregon area, think about the types of locations and outfits you want most before choosing your session date. Early summer can be an amazing time for senior portraits, especially if flower fields are high on your list. Combining natural settings with urban locations also gives you a gallery with plenty of variety.
