The
Ridgefield High School | Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington Senior Photographer
Tava’s senior session was such a fun one for me because I’ve known her for years! She plays volleyball at Ridgefield High School, and I’ve photographed her volleyball banners for several seasons. Getting to photograph her senior pictures was especially exciting because we could do something completely different from her sports photos. We started at Sean’s Studio in Vancouver, Washington for hair and makeup before heading into downtown Portland and finishing the evening in Lake Oswego.
One thing I love about early summer senior sessions is how much daylight we have to work with. The sun sets later, which means we can fit in several outfits and locations without feeling rushed. For Tava, that meant starting with city photos and saving the flower gardens and tall grasses for sunset.

Our first stop was downtown Portland, where Tava wore a red cap-sleeve babydoll top, wide-leg jeans, and red and white striped sneakers. We photographed along the sidewalks and near white brick walls, which worked perfectly with her colorful outfit. The red top and matching sneakers added a fun detail to her casual look, while the lighter walls kept the background simple.

Next, Tava changed into a green ruffle top with wide-leg jeans and sneakers. We moved between the taller buildings downtown for a different city setting. I love photographing along these streets because the buildings create interesting backgrounds, and there are so many places to work with in a small area.

For her third outfit, Tava chose a black mini dress with an open back and tan wedge sandals. We found large glass windows in downtown Portland that gave these portraits a more modern look. The reflections in the windows worked especially well with her black dress, making this part of the session feel dressier than the first two outfits.

After finishing downtown, we headed to Lake Oswego for the outdoor portion of her senior pictures. Tava changed into a white eyelet sundress with brown cowboy boots, and we photographed in a flower garden filled with hollyhocks, red crocosmia, and pink blooms.
This was one of my favorite parts of the evening! The flowers were full of color, and the sunlight was coming through behind Tava. Her white dress stood out against the garden, while the cowboy boots added a little personality to the outfit. The warm backlight made the flowers look especially pretty and gave us some of my favorite portraits from her session.

We then moved into a tall grass field for her green maxi dress. The tie-back detail was a great addition to this outfit, and the longer dress worked beautifully with the open field. By this point, we were photographing during golden hour, with the lower sun lighting up the grasses around her.
I always love having a dress like this for field photos because it adds movement and gives us a different look from jeans or shorter dresses. The green also paired naturally with the summer scenery without blending too much into the background.

For Tava’s final outfit, we headed to the white barn doors in Lake Oswego. She changed into light-wash denim overalls with a white tank top and black and white sneakers. It was such a fun, casual way to finish after the dresses and city outfits earlier in the evening.
The white barn doors gave us a simple background that worked really well with the denim. I also loved ending with an outfit that felt relaxed and comfortable. It added another side to her gallery and showed how much variety we could get from one evening of senior pictures.
Tava’s session is a great example of why I love combining downtown Portland and Lake Oswego for senior photos. We were able to photograph modern city streets, glass buildings, colorful gardens, tall grasses, and white barn doors without needing to choose between urban and outdoor settings.
Early summer is also a great time to schedule senior pictures around Portland. With the longer evenings, we have more time to work through different outfits and save those open fields and gardens for the warm light near sunset.
Tava, thank you for such an awesome evening! After photographing your volleyball banners over the years, it was so much fun getting to create your senior portraits. I loved all the different outfits you brought, especially the white dress in the flowers and the green dress in the tall grasses. Congratulations on your senior year and the Ridgefield High School Class of 2026!
