Kellen’s Senior Pictures in Vancouver
King’s Way Christian Schools | Vancouver Washington Senior Photographer
Kellen’s senior session had a little bit of everything, which is exactly what I love when planning senior pictures. We combined modern urban locations around downtown Vancouver with golden fall fields, a creative studio setup, and sports portraits that reflected some of his biggest interests. The result was a gallery that felt personal while offering a wide variety of looks from start to finish.
We started the afternoon at Sean’s Studio in Vancouver, WA before heading into downtown Vancouver for the first part of Kellen’s senior pictures. Downtown is one of my favorite places to photograph seniors because every few blocks offers something different. Modern buildings, clean architecture, wood textures, and open courtyards all help create a gallery with plenty of variety without traveling far.
One of the most unique parts of Kellen’s session happened right in the studio. Since snowboarding is such a big part of his life, we wanted to make sure we included it in his senior pictures. We used a blue backdrop while he brought in his snowboard, creating a clean, bold look that really stood out from the rest of the session. I always encourage seniors to include hobbies or activities that are meaningful to them because those photos become some of the most memorable in the gallery.
After leaving the studio, we headed into downtown Vancouver where Kellen changed into a green sweatshirt for portraits in a modern urban courtyard. The clean concrete, contemporary architecture, and simple backgrounds kept the focus on him while giving the images a relaxed, everyday feel.
For his next outfit, Kellen wore a red sweater as we photographed around wood walls and large glass windows. These textures added warmth and contrast while still keeping the modern downtown look. It’s always fun moving between different city locations because each one creates a completely different style without having to travel very far.
As the evening light softened, we made our way to one of my favorite tall grass fields in Vancouver. Kellen changed into a warm taupe sweater that paired perfectly with the golden fall landscape. The glowing light and natural scenery created a completely different feel from the earlier urban portraits and added another layer of variety to his senior gallery.
We wrapped up the session with soccer portraits using off-camera flash. Adding dramatic lighting gave these images a stronger, more athletic feel and helped them stand apart from the rest of the session. Whether it’s a favorite sport, hobby, or activity, I always enjoy ending sessions with something that highlights what makes each senior unique.
One fun connection with this family is that I had the opportunity to photograph Kellen’s sister as a senior as well. It’s always special when families come back, and I love getting to document this season of life for siblings over the years.
Kellen, thank you so much for trusting me with your senior pictures! It was a great afternoon exploring downtown Vancouver, creating some fun studio portraits with your snowboard, and finishing the evening with beautiful fall light and soccer photos. I hope you have an amazing senior year and all the best in everything ahead!
