In-Person Sales Part II

In-Person Sales Part II Senior Photography Education Sean Brown

If you haven’t read the first part of the blog post, make sure to check out the last post on the blog!

On the second part of the in-person sales blog post, I want to answer the question of “Should I offer digital images if I’m doing in-person sales?”

There are a lot of approaches to this and this is simply my take on it. Like I have said before, do what works for you and your business. This is the key to anything because if you’re grinding and it doesn’t work for you, it won’t work long term.

Now let’s approach this from what I believe and what has worked for my business.

“Should I offer digital images if I’m doing in-person sales?”

Yes. I absolutely believe that you should be offering the digital files as a high school senior photographer. The reason is that this is the most sought after product that you can offer as a senior photographer. Seniors want the digital files to be able to post to their social media. It’s their version of currency and that’s why I make sure to offer them.

However, you have to be smart in how you structure your collections and digital collections. For one, I never offer digital images a la carte. You can only buy the digital images after you have invested in photography products as my client. I believe in making sure that I am pairing it with products that they cannot get anywhere else and that they know that by investing in my services that they’re getting more than just the digital images. I also make sure that I am not pricing my digital images at a point where I am losing money per session and to make sure I’m not sleeping under the bridge. Everything has a price and I highly encourage you to run the numbers for what works in your business.

Another reason that I offer the digital products is that it allows my clients to basically market for me. When they’re sharing their images, their friends and family are seeing your work and it’s modern day word of mouth. By using something like StickyFolios, this has all of my contact information right there for them to be able to get a hold of me whenever they need to. I absolutely love this and you should to as a photographer!

The one thing that I will say doesn’t work as a viable business model is to give the digital images away without product. The reason that I say this is that over time, your clients will associate you as just another photographer who shoots images. They don’t have any basis that is rooted in receiving product, a delivery experience, a design experience or anything else. Even if you were to do in-person sales and they bought the digital images, you’re still depriving your clients of a full experience.

While there’s no right or wrong, I do believe that these are the things that have worked for me in my business and will continue to work. I would love to hear your experience after reading Part I and Part II of this blog.
