the vision behind

project

beauty

our mission

Started by Thomas Nguyen and quickly spreading to the SBP Senior Team, Project Beauty began with the goal of redefining what true beauty really is and how beauty is portrayed on social media. So often teens are bombarded with imagery of what society perceives as beautiful. While this culture has always been around, social media has only amplified this effect and it has put this in the forefront of our teens’ daily lives. With Project Beauty, our goal is to bring natural, true beauty to the forefront of everyone’s social media and bring attention to the fact that teens do not need to look a certain way in order to be accepted by their peers and fit in.

Our mission: redefine how beauty is depicted on social media and to photograph seniors with no makeup and no retouching. The result are images that allow these teens to walk away feeling more confident, empowered than before and showcase what true beauty really is.

hear how SBP Seniors are defining

true beauty

"I think true beauty is definitely what’s on the inside vs the outside. Having a kind heart and being caring towards others means so much more than what’s on the outside. I myself used to have a hard time being comfortable in my own body but I have learned that I am perfect the way I am and that you just have to kill the negative thoughts that come to your mind and embrace your true beauty."

"True beauty to me means rollin with what you got and rockin' it! Nobody was ever made to look like someone else, that’s why we are all different and no two people look identical. Our differences are what make each and everyone of us truly beautiful."

"True beauty to me means when someone is confident in who they are on the inside. To me, the most beautiful people are the ones who shine on the inside not the outside. I want people to know that they’re not alone and there is no 'perfect body'. Everyone is truly beautiful in their own way."

"Beauty to me is something more than what people see on the outside. It’s how you feel and how you express yourself. You don’t get to know someone’s true beauty until you truly know them for who they are. I struggled with the concept of beauty a lot in middle school and it took me a while to realize all the ideals were in my own head. I would say to anyone who is struggling with the idea of beauty to take a step back and not let other’s negative opinions of you affect how you truly feel about yourself."

"True beauty to me is being yourself. Social media has given a set standard of what a perfect beautiful image is, but the only thing about being beautiful is being yourself. One thing I have learned over the years is to always stay confident in yourself. I personally struggle with loving my own image but at the end of the day you need to stay confident because everyone is beautiful in their OWN way! One piece of advice I was always given from my beautiful mom was to always be-you-tiful!"

"True beauty to me means showing off your true authentic self. It is showing everyone that you are beautiful inside and out by being solely yourself. That you don’t need makeup or anything else to determine your true beauty. The best advice that I can give is to always focus on yourself and focus on how you want to present yourself. You don’t always need to change to try and impress other people."

"I believe that true beauty comes from the inside. It’s about having confidence in yourself, being honest, and accepting others for who they are. Beauty isn’t about what you look like, it’s about being yourself and shining from within. If you are struggling, a big piece of advice is to show off who you are. There are so many unique and different people in the world and everyone would love to see the real you."

"True beauty comes from within. We are constantly inundated by the beauty standards set by social media that if, we are honest, are near impossible to live up to. We forget that we don’t have to look a certain way to obtain outside approval. The moment we realize our own true beauty comes from how we treat others and living a genuine life then this world will be a more beautiful place."

"True beauty to me comes from the inside. Having a good personality and good character means the most. The best advice I have received is 'Don’t measure yourself against what you see on social media.' I feel like a lot of people think they need to look a certain way to fit in but that shouldn’t be the way you feel. "

"True beauty to me is how you love and treat people, it’s not what’s on the outside it is the beauty on the inside. There are times in my life where I struggle with my self-image, worrying about breaking out or with my body image. It’s something that can be very discouraging, though it helps when you remember the meaning of true beauty. "

"True beauty to me is how you can change the world for the better. I personally struggled with comparing myself to others, and I know that’s something many girls struggle with while growing up being exposed to social media. But I believe that true beauty is how you show love to others and how you’re making a positive impact everyday. My piece of advice is to remember that there is no definition of what is or isn’t beautiful, so don’t be afraid to be yourself!"

"Only a select few have beauty from within and that’s true beauty. How much you give to others & care for others measures your true beauty. It's as simple as that. My experience at Project Beauty with Sean was so different than I expected and so different from other shoots. At Project Beauty you are able to be fully yourself."

"Aspiring to look like others is really common but finding beauty in yourself is so much better. The Project Beauty shoot highlights the epitome of what it means to be beautiful - being yourself. Finding confidence can be hard but during the shoot, when you’re surrounded by friends, it comes naturally. The Project Beauty shoot is a super uplifting event and showcases the true beauty everyone holds within."
